GEORGE CIVIC CENTRE

On behalf of the City of George, it is my privilege to welcome you to our beautiful city – the place where God paused for a while whilst creating it!

George is indeed excited to be hosts for choirs from across South Africa who will participate in this unique choir festival, held in our pacesetting city and heartbeat of the Garden Route!

This is no time to limit ourselves – no time to simply look at the horizon and perceive it as our boundary. The time has come to realize that cultural expression has the same capacity, if not more, to unite the different cultural groups of our country.  It is music that has the ability to release us from the limitations of our thoughts. Whilst we are listening to choral music, we become more aware of who we are and everything we wish to be. It has the ability to wash away the dust of our everyday life from our souls.

Even our communities are like music – some high notes, some low notes, but always a beautiful song. I therefore want to encourage every participant to perform at their best and continue on this course of realising their dreams.  This event offers you an opportunity and has the ability to propel you forward.

Let us uphold the words of Evelyn Thomas who once said: “We are unstoppable when we share a common goal – a common vision and act as a team.” You are already winners in your own right – let us embrace this and live out the principle of cultural warmth.

Enjoy your stay in our beautiful city and may your harmonious voices ring in our ears for years to come.

Regards
